I've gotten great results with the CONTAX 80-200mm f4. This lens is awkward to carry though. It's long and thin. The barrel doesn't extend when zooming, so there's no short configuration for packing in a bag.

This is a lens that doesn't get as much love as it deserves. The Contax 80-200mm f4 has great micro contrast and nice zoom range. The 100-300mm f5.6 gets more attention but also tends to suffer from rear balsam separation.
