What's the best format to start with in large format?

by Guest » Thu Sep 05, 2024 12:01 am

I'm getting into large format photography and wondering if 4x5 is the way to go. What are the benefits of 4x5 over other film sizes? I like color photography too much to only shoot in black and white so I'll need a format that's easy to do the color processing at home. I've looked into 8x10 color film and at $30 per sheet it's cost prohibitive for me. I've also seen youtubers talking about medium format film being the best compromise of resolution, ease of use, and costs. I guess I'm wondering what others have experienced getting into large format photography and what they've ended up sticking with.
